Breastfeeding, Mastitis & Blocked Ducts

Inflammatory conditions of the lactating breast (ICLB), commonly called 'mastitis' or 'blocked ducts' can be both a painful and distressing experience for a new breastfeeding Mum. 

Signs & symptoms include: 

- Flu like symptoms such as fever, chills, increased heart rate- 

-Breast may appear red or swollen- 

-Breast may feel sore or swollen-

Physiotherapy treatment at Flow Pelvic Physio can include: 

- Therapeutic ultrasound 

- Lymphatic drainage (very gentle massage and movement) 

- Stretches to relieve neck, chest and shoulder tension 

- Positioning and posture advice

- Gentle support garment such as tubi grip 

- Ice/cold packs 

- Advice around ill fitting clothing 

- Advice around rest and recovery 

- Reassurance and support

Symptoms, if left untreated, can often progress quite quickly. We therefore recommend contacting the clinic as soon as possible to arrange an appointment if you cannot find a suitable one online. We do our best to accomodate these appointments or provide immediate referral where necessary.
