Pelvic Floor appointments during Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a a busy and exciting time with a lot of changes happening within a woman’s body. During this time, it recommended that pregnant women participate in pelvic floor muscle training as this helps prevent symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction (NICE guidelines, 2021).

At Flow Pelvic Physio, we can assess your pelvic floor function and provide you with a tailored home program to address any pelvic floor dysfunction such as leakage, weakness or overactivity. We will also help you to prepare your pelvic floor optimally for birth.

If you don’t have any presenting complaints (amazing, lucky you!) your appointment will focus on prevention, education and optimising pelvic floor ahead of birth and the post-natal period.

Ideally you will be seen at:

  • 13-16 weeks

  • 21-24 weeks (after your 20 week scan)

  • 34 weeks

  • If you have any current concerns or complaints, we recommend booking an appointment as soon as you are able to.

We can also assist with common questions & complaints during pregnancy such as…

  • Is it normal to leak urine when I laugh?

  • Why am I so constipated and what can I do about it?

  • How can I prepare myself for birth

  • What type of exercise is right for me?

  • How do I know if I am doing my pelvic floor exercises correctly?

  • What do I need to know about my post natal recovery

  • I’ve read ……………… is this true?

  • How can I help lightening crotch? (Pelvic Girdle Pain) Or is it my round ligament?

  • My back and hips are tight and sore

If you have any questions about the best time to book an appointment during pregnancy please contact the clinic where we would be happy to answer any questions.
